MARQUETTE – With Marquette being known as a place to recreate, play sports and enjoy the great outdoors, many have wondered why a great sporting goods store hasn’t returned to the area since MC Sports closed. in 2017.
Four years later, that void has finally been filled with the return of Dunham’s Sports. The chain celebrated its new Marquette Township location at Westwood Mall with a grand opening Friday morning.
It is Dunham’s 69th location in Michigan and the 240th in the United States. The Marquette Township location will bring up to 40 new full-time and part-time jobs to the community, officials said in a press release.
Dunham’s left the region in 2015 with the closure of its Marquette Mall location. Now back, bigger and better than ever, there’s sure to be something for everyone in the new store. Compared to the old location, the store will offer expanded shoe and clothing shelves; a much larger hunting, fishing, camping and water sports area; a wide selection of fitness equipment; a wider selection of equipment for team sports for young people and adults; a large golf department; a wide selection of indoor and outdoor games; go-karts and mini-bikes; work clothes; denim; hydration; and more, officials said. The store also carries familiar brands like Under Armor, Carhartt, Yeti, Hydro Flask, Levi’s and many more, officials said.
Michel Greenhoe, district manager and general manager of the Marquette Township location, said the area has been in need of a physical sporting goods store for some time.

“It’s huge,” she said. “This community needed something like that, especially with the outdoors in this area.”
Greenhoe reiterated the fact that if you need it Dunham probably has it.
“There is something for everyone,” she said. “Everything from kayaking and biking to clothing, shoes, guns, ammo, camping supplies, we’ve got it.”
The store has promotions throughout the weekend. The first 75 customers to make a purchase on Friday received a Dunham’s gift card ranging from $ 10 to $ 100. The first 50 customers to make a purchase today will receive a Dunham’s t-shirt, and the first 50 customers to make a purchase on Sunday will receive a Dunham’s baseball cap.
Dunham’s Sports was founded in 1937 as Dunham’s Bait & Tackle and has grown to become the leading comprehensive aftermarket and tertiary sporting goods chain in the United States, officials said.
Dunham’s Sports is located at 3050 US 41 West in Marquette Township and is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
