The joint community vaccination center will be in the old Gordmans store, 5100 14th Ave.S., and it will likely take a week or two for public health officials to start operations there, Fargo Mayor Tim said. Mahoney, Monday, January 18.
“We think this will be a good site,” Mahoney said, adding that teams from each of the three health organizations visited the store’s old location. “We had a great discussion with the teams.”
Gordmans closed the store in August, leaving behind a spacious 55,000 square foot building.
The Fargodome was considered, but quickly ruled out as it is busy hosting events, Mahoney said.
A central location for vaccinations will be efficient and convenient for those vaccinated, he said.

“You will only have one place to go,” said Mahoney. The shots will be given by appointment, so people shouldn’t be in long lines, he said. There will be enough space, Mahoney added, to allow vaccinees to stay for 15 minutes so that they can be watched for allergic reactions.
Essentia Health will perform its first round of vaccinations for those aged 75 and over at its medical center located at 3000 32nd Ave. S. in Fargo on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, then will visit the community vaccination center, a spokeswoman said.
A spokesperson for Sanford Health said a joint announcement was expected soon, possibly Tuesday.
Biden’s incoming administration, which takes office Wednesday, is pushing for the creation of thousands of community vaccination centers. President-elect Joe Biden has set a goal of administering 100 million doses of the vaccine to protect against COVID-19 during his first 100 days in office.
To do this, the Biden administration is proposing roles for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Guard as well as for retired doctors and other retired healthcare professionals.
Members of the North Dakota National Guard have helped with mass testing for COVID-19, but so far have not been asked to help with vaccinations, a spokesperson said.
