GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Western Michigan will now have an emergency care center for people with mental health issues.
The Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services will open the region's first Emergency Mental Health Center Tuesday at 300 68th St. SE in Grand Rapids.
Pine Rest Vice President Bob Nykamp said the facility has been in development since 2014.
The center will provide services to people aged 18 to 65 with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, or other mental health issues.
"We worked with many community partners … to identify a gap in services where people could not get immediate psychiatric assessment in our community," said Nykamp.
The organization says it is a critical addition to the community, as the entire state has seen a growing demand for behavioral health services.
"The goal of this program is really to prevent patients with behavioral disorders who go to emergency services for treatment, which was the only option possible before," said Nykamp. , or brought, to emergency services in western Michigan.

The emergency care facility will be open from 10:00 to 20:00. Monday to Friday and from 8h to 15h Saturday Sunday.
