Gayle King received advice from her best friend, Oprah Winfrey, during her contract negotiations to stay on "CBS This Morning".
Page Six had previously revealed that King was about to stay on the network – but his contract is still not finalized.
Winfrey talked about King in Hollywood Reporter in a new cover of the media mogul: "I said," Get what you want. Get exactly what you want because the time has come. And if you do not get what you want, take the next step in the right direction. "
The savvy star added, "I actually called his attorney, Allen Grubman, and said," Allen, she should get what she wants. And Allen says, "What do you think I'm doing here? I told him the same thing!
Oprah recounted that the negotiations had begun before King's much discussed conversation with R. Kelly, revealing that: "I sent him a text saying," Jesus loves you. [the R. Kelly interview] could not have been better if I had done it myself. I think every interviewer thinks: "What would you have done at that time?" And what she did was an absolute perfection.
