Orange County COVID-19 hospitalizations March 29, lowest since April – Orange County Register

The OC Health Care Agency reported on Monday March 29 that there were 145 people with confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Orange County hospitals.

This is the lowest number of confirmed cases since April 12, when there were 138 people in local hospitals. It is also the lowest level reached since September – between summer and winter peaks – when 150 people were hospitalized on September 12.

The OC health care agency reported 123 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the cumulative total in the county to 250,431 cases since follow-up began.

There have been 1,527 new infections reported in the past 14 days.

An additional death was reported on Monday, bringing the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 4,726.

Data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death on record was on March 20.

The California Department of Public Health Vaccine Dashboard said more than 1.4 million doses of the vaccine had been distributed in Orange County on Sunday.

The county update says 3,325,079 tests have been done for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 5,535 new tests since the previous report.

Of the 4,726 cumulative deaths attributable to the virus, 1,046 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 519 were in assisted living facilities, one was in prison and 11 were homeless.

The distribution of deaths by age in the county is as follows:

  • 17 and under: 0.02% (1)
  • 18-24 years old: 0.21% (10)
  • 25 to 34: 1.02% (48)
  • 35 to 44: 2.2% (104)
  • 45 to 54: 6.31% (298)
  • 55 to 64: 14.03% (663)
  • 65 to 74: 19.38% (916)
  • 75 to 84: 24.78% (1,171)
  • 85 and over: 32.06% (1515)

An estimated 242,463 people recovered from the virus on Monday. The number of people who have recovered is based on the cumulative number of previous 28 days.

The data released each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials point out. Further information may become available as investigations into individual cases are completed.
