The Orange County health care agency reported 1,028 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, bringing the cumulative total in the county to 236,338 cases since follow-up began.
The agency reported 30 new deaths, bringing the total number of people who died from the coronavirus to 3,279.
The county also reported 1,233 patients at local hospitals, down 5 from the previous report. As of Friday, 342 patients were enrolled in intensive care units, a drop of 23 people from the day before.
An estimated 14,821 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the past 14 days.
The county update says 2,748,226 tests have been carried out for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 15,006 new tests since the previous report.
Of the 3,279 cumulative deaths reported from the virus, 857 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 359 were assisted living facilities, one was in an OC prison, and five were listed as homeless.
Data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death on record was on January 24.
The distribution of deaths by age in the county is as follows:
- 17 and under: 0.03% (1)
- 18-24 years old: 0.18% (6)
- 25 to 34: 1.10% (36)
- 35 to 44: 6% (72)
- 45-54: 6.56% (215, plus 3)
- 55-64: 13.21% (433, + 3)
- 75-84: 23.76% (779, plus 12)
- 85 and over: 33.82% (1,109, plus 9)
It is estimated that 195,526 people recovered from the virus on Friday. The number of people who have recovered is based on the cumulative number of previous 28 days.
Data released each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials say. Further information may become available as investigations of individual cases are completed.
