Orange County Schools Take Action After News 6 Raises Parents’ Concerns Over Bus Delays

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – After a father called News 6 about delays and missing school buses at his son’s bus stop, Orange County public schools took action.

“Within hours, as soon as you started educating yourself, I immediately started getting phone calls at the end of the day,” said William Harper.

Harper provided News 6 with a cellphone video he captured on September 10 of his son’s school bus arriving late along Goldenrod Road. Harper said it was a recurring problem that happened on a regular basis without an explanation.

“When I contacted you, I personally communicated or attempted to communicate with transportation in Orange County for weeks without any resolution,” he said.

After reviewing the video, News 6 contacted public schools in Orange County to try to resolve the issue. Officials said the district ran out of drivers before the start of the school year. At the time, they said there were 34 routes that did not have an assigned driver.

“I had various explanations, the # 1 thing was their system was down, they weren’t able to make robocalls,” Harper said.

He said that soon after we pressured the district leaders, he started getting answers.

“They are communicating now to let us know the bus is going to be late or if it will be on time,” Harper said.

“I did not receive a call saying that they were arriving late, they arrived on time, come to pick up and drop off so everything is back to normal.”

News 6 is committed to getting results. Harper said he now has peace of mind and doesn’t have to worry about his son’s suffering at school due to the bus transportation issues.
