Orange Syracuse against the predictions of Clemson Tigers (14/09/19)

Syracuse plays for the first time this season, hosting reigning National Champion Clemson (7:30 pm ET / ABC). Steve Auger and Brad Bierman, of The Juice Online, present their forecasts below.

STEVE AUGER (0-0 season record): At the time when Syracuse thwarted Virginia Tech in the Dome Carrier and Dino Babers became an internet sensation with his post-game locker speeches, he mentioned the kumbaya discussions as the team had conducted before this game.

Considering the Orange debut this season – and the imminent arrival in Maryland – Babers may want to use this strategy again as the powerful Clemson hit Saturday night.

The Tigers capture the talent of the NFL at all positions. Some GMs are certainly thinking about how to make the tank next year to land the first pick in the NFL draft; aka The Trevor Lawrence Lottery. Yes, beating the Tigers will be a big challenge for Orange. And no, they do not have the luxury of sneaking in on anyone this year, given the hype and expectations before the season.

It is time to contain the expectations with regard to Syracuse while Clemson has just called

Syracuse is far too talented to be offensively defeated at Liberty and then blown up against the Terps. Their skills have not been as rich in talent since Donovan McNabb and his friends accumulated 66 points behind the Miami Hurricanes. And Babers and his staff are legitimate. They will have this team prepared.

Although I expect Tommy Devito and the offensive to land their share of haymakers and the defense makes life difficult for Lawrence, Clemson's talent will be decisive in 38-24.

BRAD BIERMAN (Season record 1-1): It was when the Terrapins quickly scored 67 yards in less than five games in 97 seconds for the demolition of the Orange in 63-20 that we knew that this edition of the Syracuse team in 2019 still had a lot to do to equal his predecessor in 2018.

The growing quarrels with quarterback Tommy DeVito are still learning the nuances of the speed and fluidity of the game. DeVito is in his second career start after quarterback Eric Dungey's graduation, but the defeat is torn apart by self-inflicted faults. (and Andre Szmyt, winner of the Lou Groza Award, missing a PAT?) is another.

How long can Syracuse really repair in a week, even with the idea that Orange will do everything possible (in tribute to the legend of the American League Tim Green, at half time, the return of the Orange and to an exhausted dome)? The big difference between the last time the Tigers (15-0) played in the Dome in 2017 and this season is Trevor Lawrence.

Playing in a primetime Saturday night game on ABC is exactly the atmosphere that prevails in Lawrence, and this match will be no different. The SU will give CU a game for three quarters before the The tigers move away 38-24.
