Oregon approaches 500 people hospitalized with COVID-19

The Oregon Health Authority on Friday announced four deaths from COVID-19 and 970 new cases of coronavirus, as well as a further increase in hospitalizations and a new record for the number of intensive care patients.

The agency also said the number of new cases was an undercount due to technical issues that created a backlog of unresolved reports.

The Oregon Health Authority no longer reports cases, deaths and hospitalizations over the weekend. The new issues will not be available until Monday.

Vaccines: Oregon reported 6,980 newly administered doses, including 3,548 on Thursday and the rest of the days prior.

Where new cases are by county: Baker (7), Benton (11), Clackamas (73), Clatsop (26), Columbia (3), Coos (24), Crook (10), Curry (16), Deschutes (54), Douglas (64), Harney (3), Hood River (10), Jackson (141), Jefferson (7), Josephine (41), Klamath (9), Lake (1), Lane (40), Lincoln (13), Linn (8) , Malheur (5), Marion (71), Morrow (13), Multnomah (94), Polk (18), Tillamook (4), Umatilla (61), Union (19), Wallowa (1), Wasco (12) , Washington (79), Wheeler (3) and Yamhill (29).

Who is dead: Oregon’s 2,886th COVID-19 death is a 25-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive on July 30 and died on August 4 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

The 2,887th death is a 48-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive on August 1 and died on August 4 at Asante Rogue Valley Medical Center. He had no underlying condition.

Oregon’s 2,888th death is a 67-year-old woman from Multnomah County who tested positive on August 2 and died on August 4 at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

The 2,889th death is a 67-year-old man from Lane County who tested positive on July 23 and died on August 3 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in RiverBend.

Unless stated otherwise above, each person had underlying health issues.

Hospitalizations: 496 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, up from 39 compared to Thursday. That includes 135 people in intensive care, one more than Thursday and a new record since the start of the pandemic.

From the beginning : Oregon has reported 226,899 confirmed or suspected infections and 2,889 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the country. To date, the state has reported 4,664,463 doses administered, fully immunizing 2,325,446 people and partially immunizing 186,600 people.
