(Update: Added weekly OHA report showing increase in cases, hospitalizations and deaths)
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There are 20 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, including Crook County’s 30th death, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,086, the Oregon Health Authority.
The OHA also reported 2,777 new confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases as of 12:01 a.m. today, bringing the state total to 263,164.
Weekly COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths increase
The Oregon Health Authority’s COVID-19 Weekly Report, released Wednesday, shows a continuing increase in daily cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
The OHA reported 14,800 new cases of COVID-19 during the week of Monday August 15 through Sunday August 22. This represents an increase of 16% from the previous week.
There were 601 new hospitalizations for COVID-19, up from 546 last week. This marked the seventh straight week of increases.
There have been 87 reported COVID-19-related deaths, up from 46 reported the previous week.
There were 149,836 tests for COVID-19 for the week of August 15-21. The percentage of positive tests rose to 12.3%, from 11.8% reported the previous week.
Wednesday’s COVID-19 Outbreak Weekly Report shows 103 active COVID-19 outbreaks in elderly communities and collective living spaces, with at least three confirmed cases and one or more COVID-19-related deaths.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospital patients with COVID-19 in Oregon is 1,080, up 80 from Tuesday. There are 295 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 12 more than Tuesday.
There are 44 available adult intensive care beds out of a total of 662 (7% uptime) and 320 non-ICU adult beds available out of 4,256 (8% uptime).
St. Charles Bend reported a record 72 COVID-19 patients early Wednesday, including 14 in intensive care, all on ventilators.
The total number of patients in hospital beds may fluctuate between reporting times. Figures do not reflect admissions per day or length of hospital stay. Staff limitations are not captured in this data and may further limit bed capacity.

Vaccinations in Oregon
The OHA reported on Wednesday that 11,462 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been added to the state’s immunization registry. Of that total, 2,951 were initial doses and 1,507 were second doses given on Tuesday. The remaining 6,306 were administered the previous days, but were recorded in the vaccine registry on Tuesday.
The seven-day moving average is now 7,777 doses per day.
Oregon has now administered 2,774,549 first and second doses of Pfizer Comirnaty, 1,831,684 first and second doses of Moderna, and 195,572 single doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.
As of Wednesday, 2,598,416 people had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 2,381,298 people had completed a series of COVID-19 vaccines.
It may take several days for the cumulative daily totals to be finalized because providers have 72 hours to report doses administered and technical issues have caused many providers to be late in reporting. The OHA provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the timeliness of entering their data into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).

Oregon Healthcare Workforce COVID-19 Vaccine Adoption: August Update
The August update adds new data for all visualizations through August 15, 2021 and now includes the Physiotherapy license panel in the dashboard. There are two types of license within the physiotherapy licensing board: physiotherapist (PT) at 89% and physiotherapy assistant (PTA) at 77% vaccinated. The COVID-19 vaccine uptake dashboard for healthcare workers will be updated every month around the first week of the month.
