(Update: OHA releases details of deaths, including Deschutes County 33rd)
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There are 21 new COVID-19 deaths in Oregon, including a Deschutes County resident, bringing the state’s death toll to 1,758, along with 1,037 new cases, the Oregon Health Authority reported on Friday.
Deschutes County’s 33rd death is an 83-year-old man who tested positive on January 4 and died at his home nine days later. He had underlying conditions, OHA said. Learn more about the Deschutes County COVID-19 dashboard.
The OHA also reported 1,037 new confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases as of midnight 01 Friday, bringing the state total to 131,258.
Vaccinations in Oregon
On Friday, the Oregon health authority reported that 26,936 new doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been added to the state’s immunization registry. Of this total, 10,618 doses of vaccine were administered Thursday and 16,318 were administered the previous days, but were entered in the vaccine registry Thursday.
Based on the updated totals, the Oregon Health Authority is meeting Governor Kate Brown’s goal of providing 12,000 immunizations per day. The governor demanded that the benchmark be reached at the end of the two-week period that began on January 4.
Finalizing cumulative daily totals can take several days because providers have 72 hours to report doses given and technical issues have caused many providers to delay reporting, the OHA said. The Oregon Health Authority provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the timeliness of their data entry into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).
Oregon has now administered a cumulative total of 173,073 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccinations were administered by hospitals in Oregon, long-term care facilities, emergency medical services (EMS) agencies, emergency care facilities, and local public health authorities (LPHA ).
To date, 326,300 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to sites across Oregon.

The St. Charles Health System announced that it administered 6,264 Pfizer BioNTech vaccines as of early Friday. He also told NewsChannel 21 that 68% of caregivers had been vaccinated.

The new confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases reported on Friday are in the following counties: Baker (2), Benton (21), Clackamas (54), Clatsop (4), Columbia (11), Coos (3), Crook ( 4), Curry (1), Deschutes (43), Douglas (21), Grant (31), Harney (1), Hood River (4), Jackson (52), Jefferson (14), Josephine (48), Klamath (14), Lake (1), Lane (86), Lincoln (5), Linn (16), Malheur (5), Marion (95), Morrow (5), Multnomah (155), Polk (23), Umatilla (111), Union (7), Wallowa (2), Wasco (14), Washington (141) and Yamhill (43).
St. Charles Bend reported 41 COVID-19 patients as of 4 a.m. Friday, including eight in intensive care, seven on ventilators.
