The state reports 4,701 cases over the weekend; hospitalization reaches 937 statewide, 66 in Bend (15 in intensive care)
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There were 24 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon over the weekend, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,036, along with a record number of ‘hospitalizations statewide and in St. Charles Bend, the Oregon Health Authority reported Monday.
The OHA reported 4,701 new confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases on Monday at 12:01 a.m., bringing the state total to 257,644.
The 4,701 cases reported on Monday include new infections recorded by counties for the 3-day period between Friday August 20 and Sunday August 22.
Vaccinations in Oregon
The OHA reported on Monday that 4,491 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been added to the state’s immunization registry. Of that total, 672 were initial doses and 363 were second doses given on Sunday. The remaining 3,367 were administered the previous days but were entered in the vaccine registry on Sunday.
The seven-day moving average is now 7,203 doses per day.
Oregon has now administered 2,761,952 first and second doses of Pfizer, 1,826,742 first and second doses of Moderna, and 194,128 single doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.
As of Monday, 2,587,552 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 2,373,947 people have completed a series of COVID-19 vaccines.
It may take several days for the cumulative daily totals to be finalized, as providers have 72 hours to report doses administered and technical issues have caused many providers to be late in reporting. The OHA provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the timeliness of entering their data into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).

COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospital patients with COVID-19 in Oregon is 937, up 37 from Sunday. There are 253 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 22 more than yesterday.
As of Monday morning, there were 47 adult intensive care beds available out of a total of 657 (7% uptime) and 349 non-ICU adult beds available out of 4,172 (8% uptime).
St. Charles Bend reported a record 66 COVID-19 patients early Monday morning, 15 of whom were in intensive care – also a record, with 14 on ventilators.
The total number of patients in hospital beds can fluctuate from time to time. Figures do not reflect admissions per day or length of hospital stay. Staff limitations are not captured in this data and may further limit bed capacity.
