Oregon reports 29 more COVID-19 deaths, 1,152 cases, over 16,000 vaccinations

OHA says it hit governor’s goal of 12,000 vaccinations per day last week

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There are 29 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, bringing the state’s death toll to 1,737, along with 1,152 new cases and more than 16,000 new vaccinations, reported Thursday the Oregon Health Authority.

The OHA reported 1,152 new confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases as of 12:01 am Thursday morning, bringing the state total to 130,246.

Vaccinations in Oregon

On Thursday, the health authority reported that 16,355 new doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been added to the state’s immunization registry. Of this total, 10,172 doses of vaccine were administered on Wednesday and 6,183 were administered the previous days, but were entered in the vaccine registry on Wednesday.

Based on the updated totals, the OHA announced that vaccination sites across the state have met Governor Kate Brown’s goal of providing 12,000 vaccinations per day as of the end of last week. Vaccine suppliers in Oregon administered 12,039 total doses of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines on Friday, January 8.

It may take several days for the cumulative daily totals to be finalized because providers have 72 hours to report doses administered and technical issues have caused many providers to be late in reporting. The Health Authority provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the speed of their data entry into the state’s ALERT vaccination information system (IIS).

“As we hit the governor’s goal of getting 12,000 vaccines delivered in one day last week,” said OHA Director Patrick Allen, “we want to maintain and increase our daily totals. The state cannot meet our goal of providing immunizations quickly, efficiently and fairly, on its own. I am grateful for the hard work staff at hospitals, local health clinics, and other sites have put in to speed up vaccination for Oregonians. Vaccines are the safest and most effective way to end this pandemic. “

Oregon has now administered a cumulative total of 146,137 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccinations were administered by hospitals in Oregon, long-term care facilities, emergency medical services (EMS) agencies, emergency care facilities, and local public health authorities (LPHA ).

To date, 321,425 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to sites across Oregon.

St. Charles said he administered 5,456 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccinations as of early Thursday. The hospital system also announced on Wednesday evening that people included in the Phase 1a priority group can now schedule vaccine appointments directly on their website.

COVID-19 hospitalizations

The number of hospital patients with COVID-19 in Oregon is 415, down 19 from Wednesday. There are 101 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, two fewer than Wednesday.

The total number of patients in hospital beds may fluctuate between reporting times. Figures do not reflect admissions per day or length of hospital stay. Staff limitations are not taken into account in this data and may further limit bed capacity.

St. Charles Bend reported 39 patients with COVID-19 as of 4 a.m. Thursday, including nine in the ICU, seven on ventilators.
