PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There are 54 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, tying the daily record and bringing the state’s death toll to 1,667, the United States Health Authority reported on Tuesday. Oregon.
“The high death toll reminds us that the pandemic continues to pose a threat to our friends, neighbors, colleagues and communities,” the OHA press release said Tuesday afternoon.
The growing number of cases which rose in November and December is one of the factors attributed to Tuesday’s record number of deaths.
Counting deaths from death certificates can be time consuming to process as they are determined by doctors and then sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further examination before the cause of death is finally determined.
Once this information is confirmed, the information is reported with a final cause of death to the states. This lagged indicator is now captured on Tuesday.
The OHA also reported 1,203 new confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases as of 12:01 a.m. today, bringing the state total to 127,780.
Vaccinations in Oregon
As of Tuesday, 10,465 new doses of COVID-19 vaccine were added to the state’s immunization registry. Of this total, 6,668 doses of vaccine were administered on Monday and 3,797 were administered the previous days, but were entered in the vaccine registry on Monday.
Oregon has now administered a cumulative total of 115,060 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccinations were administered by hospitals in Oregon, long-term care facilities, emergency medical services (EMS) agencies, emergency care facilities, and local public health authorities (LPHA ).
These data are preliminary and subject to change.
St. Charles Health System has reported administering 4,539 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccinations.

COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Oregon is 403, six fewer than Monday. There are 93 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, nine more than Monday.
The total number of patients in hospital beds may fluctuate between reporting times. Figures do not reflect admissions per day or length of hospital stay. Staff limitations are not taken into account in this data and may further limit bed capacity.
