Oscars 2019: Wonderfully English acceptance speech for best actress Olivia Colman

Olivia Colman is congratulated for her acceptance speech after winning this year's Best Actress Oscar.

The British star seemed visibly shocked when Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell announced that they had beaten Wife"Glenn, near the trophy.

She honored the stage and held the public in disarray while she was saying what many think is the best speech of the evening.

"It's really stressful. It's hilarious. I have an Oscar! All in all, I have to thank a lot of people. If, by the way, I forget someone, I will find you later and give you all a mess in the air. Yorgos – my best director and the best film and with Emma and Rachel, the two most beautiful women in the world to love and work everyday. You can imagine that it was not a test. And to be in this category with these amazing women and Glenn Close, you've been my idol for so long and that's not what I wanted it to be and I think you're amazing and I like you a lot. I love you all. Thank you.

Earlier in the evening, Rami Malek won the Best Actor Award for his performance of Freddie Mercury in Queen Biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Mahershala Ali won the Best Supporting Actress Award for Best Feature Film of the Year, Green paper, while Regina King won Best Actress in Supporting Actress for her performance in If Beale Street could speak.

Films in contention for the success of this year's ceremony included Alfonso Cuaron's Netflix drama Roma, the musical Bradley Cooper-Lady Gaga A star is born and BlacKkKlansman. The former led with 10 alongside Yorgos Lanthimos The favouritee, with the political satire of Adam McKay Vice closely follows with eight.
