Osceola County Prepares, Plans How It Will Administer COVID-19 Vaccine

OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL – The Florida Department of Health, Osceola County is putting plans in place to administer the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to the public.

The Florida Department of Health in Osceola County held a COVID-19 test and influenza vaccine on Saturday at its Kissimmee office. As people line up for their COVID-19 tests before Thanksgiving, some are also getting the flu shot. The health department is using the flu shot as a way to prepare for administering the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available.

“The vaccine will eventually arrive in Osceola County. It is important for us to work with our Emergency Management Department to identify vaccination sites and focus on the flu vaccination process so that we can prepare for the possible vaccinations, ”said Jeremy T. Lanier, Florida Department of Health, Osceola County.

The Florida Department of Health was conducting a temporal movement study during the flu event on Saturday. The department is studying the time it takes for medical staff to administer the flu vaccine to each person to see how they can make the process more efficient for when they administer the COVID-19 vaccine in the future.

“This study aims to time our processes from the time the individual fills out the intake form to the point where they are vaccinated. This will help us plan any COVID-19 vaccinations we may have in the future. “, Lanier said.

Lanier says preparation is the key to making the process fast, smooth and efficient.

“We can tighten up the processes, focus on the areas where we are weakest and strengthen the whole process,” he said.

Information gathered from the event will be reviewed and the Florida Department of Health will work with Osceola County Emergency Management to develop plans for the COVID-19 vaccine.
