The LaGrange Postal Services community came together earlier this week to honor the late Jenny Marterella, who died in an ATV accident over the weekend.
Marterella, 56, had worked for the United States Postal Service for almost 30 years, and it’s clear she will be sorely missed.
During this pandemic, we think everyone has come to appreciate the work people do – people we probably took for granted. This includes retail workers, who stock the shelves of necessary groceries; janitors, who clean an area to make sure we don’t get germs; fast food workers, who provide a quick meal when we’re on the go; and much, much more. Our postal workers are also part of this little-known category. It’s amazing that when you talk about the post office you often hear negative comments or talk about the inefficiencies they face.
But for the most part, our mail is almost always delivered on time. Postal workers roll around town, trying to deliver mail as vehicles pass them, many of them not even touching their brakes.
Our postal workers also work long hours, often starting early in the day. Some deliver packages late at night, especially as Christmas time approaches. We appreciate all the work they do, even if they don’t often get the credit they deserve.
Many of them weren’t even able to attend Marterella’s service so they could make sure they did their jobs.
Marterella will be missed by all who knew her and she was clearly loved by her colleagues.
We thank all postal workers for the work they do every day. The work does not go unnoticed.
