Biden is expected to announce vaccine requirement for federal workers this week
President Biden is expected to announce Thursday that federal government employees and contractors must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or else they will be subjected to frequent testing for the virus, a source familiar with the confirmed plans told The Hill.
Biden will outline the new protocols for federal workers during a speech Thursday in which he plans to detail efforts to get more Americans vaccinated as cases in the country increase.

The president admitted on Tuesday that his administration was considering making it mandatory for federal workers to obtain the coronavirus vaccine.
“It’s under review right now, but if you’re not vaccinated you’re not as smart as I thought,” Biden said during a visit to the office of the director of national intelligence.

Follows: The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced Monday that it will require its frontline health workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, making it the first federal agency to institute a mandate for coronavirus vaccinations.

Consequences of updated CDC guidelines: Republican governors revolt against CDC guidelines on masks
Republican governors reject new mask recommendations issued by the CDC on Tuesday, making health recommendations a setback amid a campaign to vaccinate millions of Americans who are already struggling in their states.
In public statements and comments, governors have said their states will not revert to mask orders issued in 2020, including several state leaders at the epicenter of the Delta Wave.
In Texas: “Gov. Abbott has made it clear that the time for the government to make masks mandatory is over – the time has come for personal accountability, ”Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said in a statement Tuesday. “Every Texan has the right to choose whether he will wear a mask or have his children wear masks.”
In Nebraska: “New CDC guidelines suggesting that vaccinated people wear masks indoors defeat the public health goals that should guide the agency’s decision-making,” Gov. Pete Ricketts (R) said in a press release. “The state of Nebraska will not adopt its mask guidelines.”
In Iowa: Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) called the new guidelines “not based on reality or common sense.”
“I am concerned that these guidelines will be used as a vehicle to enforce masks in states and schools across the country, something I do not support,” she said.

Where do the new CDC recommendations apply? Here’s where you should wear a mask indoors
The CDC’s update to have many fully vaccinated Americans wear indoor masks came amid an alarming increase in COVID-19 cases across the country that suggests the highly contagious delta variant is in full swing boom.
The guidelines themselves advised fully immunized people in counties with “substantial” and “high” transmission to wear masks in indoor public places.
About 63 percent of counties are now an area of high or substantial transmission, but the South is at the center of the new push.
The south is mostly painted red for high transmission in CDC county guidelines, with all of Louisiana, Arkansas and Florida considered to have high transmission of COVID-19. The new masking recommendations apply to all but two counties in Missouri, Mississippi and Alabama.
The South also has almost all of the counties with the highest average daily number of cases per population. The top 40 counties with the most COVID-19 cases per capita are all in the south and Missouri, according to data from the New York Times.

Ford reacts and demands face masks again at factories in Missouri, Florida
The Ford Motor Company has said it will again require all employees and visitors to wear masks at its facilities in Missouri and Florida, two states where new cases of the coronavirus are on the rise.
The Michigan-based automaker will also require its employees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus before traveling overseas “due to the potential for increased exposure to COVID-19,” spokeswoman Kelli Felker told Detroit News.
“Ford continues to strongly encourage all members of the team who are medically capable of being vaccinated,” Felker said in a statement.
Ford’s announcement comes as federal health officials warn of the dangers of the rapidly spreading delta variant of the coronavirus that has prompted the CDC to recommend fully vaccinated Americans in parts of the country to mask themselves in the indoor public places.
All counties in Florida and most of Missouri are considered high transmission areas, activating new CDC guidelines.

Pfizer says third vaccine injection ‘strongly’ stimulates immune response against delta variant
Pfizer said on Wednesday that a third dose of its COVID-19 vaccine “strongly” stimulated the immune response against the delta variant.
The company released slides ahead of a call for results, with data showing antibody levels five times higher after a third dose in people aged 18 to 55 against the delta variant, and 11 times higher. among 65 to 85 year olds.
Supplementary debate: Pfizer made waves earlier this month when it announced it would seek Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for a third dose of its vaccine.
Yet, it is not yet entirely clear when and if a booster dose will be needed. Booster shots may only be needed for more vulnerable people such as the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.
Experts also point out that antibody levels are not the only measure of protection and that there are also other parts of the immune system that are also activated against the coronavirus. Some have noted that Pfizer also has a financial incentive to sell more doses of its vaccine to use as boosters.
