One of MonitoringThe most credible sources of development news, the Metro streamer / leaker, claim that Monitoring 2 is “mostly done”. But part of the reason the game’s release could be pushed back to 2023, its sources say, is because the development team has yet to consider reworking the current heroes.
On August 7, Metro posted on Twitter that “several people” close to its Monitoring Source 2 claims that development of the game is taking longer than expected and that “a release in 2022 no longer seems likely.” Although a 2022 release has yet to be confirmed, many Monitoring fans have been hoping and expecting a release within the next calendar year, especially after Blizzard began showing full gameplay in 2021.
With the new game, Blizzard has promised to add new maps, new heroes, a single player campaign, and significant revamps to the current heroes when it comes to traditional PvP modes. During a broadcast the same day as its previous tweet, Metro said most of them were finished, but not all.
“From what I have gathered, the [new] most heroes are made, ”he said. “They’ve got a completely finished base single player campaign, basically. They also have the [new] maps made for multiplayer. What they haven’t done is they haven’t considered anything in terms of reworking the heroes. “
Metro added that the developers apparently only recently realized they need to consider reworking the heroes, specifically citing McCree’s overpowered stun ability that still appears in the latest. Monitoring 2 previews. The developers themselves have confirmed that the heroes will need to be rebalanced to reflect the changes to the PvP format, especially the shift from six against six to five against five.
There are probably other things that still need to be worked on regarding Monitoring 2 because it’s hard to imagine a game “almost done” requiring more than an entire year to focus solely on balancing the heroes. If the 2023 release window is true, it would be four years since rumors of a Monitoring the sequel under development has surfaced for the first time.
In an Activision Blizzard call for results in early August, in which management addressed the recent lawsuit over gender-based discrimination and harassment, it was relayed that Monitoring 2 had “passed an important internal stage in recent weeks”.
