NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft allows the Green Bay Packers to get some help on the offensive line late in the first round.
Jeremiah’s mock draft sent Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins to the Packers at No. 29 overall.
Jenkins’ selection would give the Packers valuable depth in the attacking tackle and long-term starting potential in the right tackle against David Bakhtiari. Jeremiah believes Jenkins can play both tackle and guard, giving another player valuable versatility for the Packers’ offensive line.
Matt LaFleur’s offense has mainly used Rick Wagner and Billy Turner on right tackle in 2020. Turner can play multiple positions and may need to play left tackle to start 2021, while Wagner – despite having a strong 2020 season – could be. a victim of the cap this offseason. The Packers may also lose All-Pro center Corey Linsley in free agency, which will likely force guard Elgton Jenkins or Lucas Patrick to move inside.

Jenkins is a big, powerful right tackle. He is very quick from his position in the passing game and he can cover the field in a hurry. He has no problem withdrawing to cover the speed rushers. However, it has a few issues when it has to redirect itself quickly inside which leads to some allowed pressure. He has strong and violent hands but sometimes he becomes too aggressive which affects his balance. It absorbs power rushes quite easily. It is fun to watch in the racing game. He can squeeze and dump the linemen on his nose. He collects a lot of knockouts. He has the speed to cut in the back and he is very efficient to climb to the second level. Overall, Jenkins has a few balance issues to fix, but I like his size, speed, and nastiness. I consider him a quality NFL starter with the right tackle.
Jenkins is the 26th player overall on the Pro Football Focus large field. According to the site, he only allowed four total presses while playing the right tackle last season.
Protecting Aaron Rodgers should continue to be a long-term priority for the Packers. The 37-year-old quarterback took just 20 total sacks in 16 regular-season games during his MVP season in 2020.
The Packers haven’t drafted a real offensive tackle since Jason Spriggs in the second round of 2016. The need for the job would diminish if Wagner returns in 2021, but he’s only under contract for one more season and has had injury problems in the past.
Jeremiah’s first mock draft in the offseason saw the Packers take Louisville wide receiver Tutu Atwell.
