TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan's Panasonic Corp. said on Thursday it has halted shipments of some components to Huawei Technologies in order to comply with US restrictions imposed on the Chinese company.

"Panasonic has asked employees to stop trading with Huawei and its 68 subsidiaries affected by the US ban," the company said in a statement.

The Osaka-based company does not have a major production site for components in the United States, but said the ban applies to products containing 25% or more of technologies or materials of US origin .

The company, which manufactures a wide range of devices for smartphones, cars and industrial automation equipment, refused to specify the components being banned and their place of production.

The US Department of Commerce has prevented Huawei from buying US goods last week, saying the company was involved in activities contrary to national security.

The United States temporarily eased Huawei restrictions on Monday to minimize disruption to customers.
