Panthers sign one-year contract with Javien Elliott

CHARLOTTE – One day after signing off-line defensive player Gerald McCoy, the Panthers acquired another former Buccaneer, this time cornerback Javien Elliott.

Elliott, who was not traded in 2016, spent the first three seasons of his career in Tampa Bay. He played 36 games and recorded 39 tackles, one interception and two defended passes. The 5-foot-11, 176-pound athlete started five games with the Bucs last year and his one and only interception came against Cam Newton and the Panthers in the 13th week.

Elliott played his college ball at Florida State, where he made his debut as a casual player. After impressing the scouting team, Elliott finally got a scholarship. His underdog story continues now with the Panthers.

To make room on the list, the Panthers gave up guard Brendan Mahon.
