Northside scored 30 points in the third quarter to shut out South Creek, 46-0, on Friday night at Bing Mitchell Stadium.

The Panthers (3-1) scored on their first two possessions for a 16-0 advantage and it looked like the rout was on. It was, but it took three touchdowns in six minutes to open the second half and seal the victory.

“I think we came out flat despite our first two touchdowns and I told them at halftime that I was tired of being their cheerleader,” said coach Keith Boyd. “I told them to find out for themselves and I left. Several of our older guys spoke and we came to an agreement in the second half.

Fortino Beltran capped a 65-yard run with a two-yard run to start the second half, then Carson Clinkscales recovered a South Creek fumble (0-3) two games later. Marcus Clayton broke into the left side for a 42-yard touchdown in the Panthers’ first play, then returned a 52-yard interception for another score moments later.

Briley Cooper added the final touchdown on a 10-yard run late in the third quarter.

“I told them we only play 10 games if we’re lucky with COVID still around and they all better enjoy it,” Boyd said. “We played a lot better in the second half, but I would like to see us do four good quarters together.

Beltran scored Northside’s first touchdown, then quarterback Keifer Boyd found Elijah Holloway for a 20-yard pass.

Mitch Godley ran for 158 yards on 14 carries as the Panthers racked up 363 yards on 35 carries.

The Panthers travel to Rosewood on Friday.
