A troubled pizza chain based in Boston revealed that she had suffered further losses.
Papa Gino's posted a Facebook message Sunday announcing the closure of seven other sites in New England, including six in Massachusetts and one in New Hampshire. The closures come after PGHC Holdings, Inc., the former parent company of Papa Gino's and D'Angelo Grilled Sandwiches, closed about 95 sites between the two chains in November. PGHC Holdings, Inc. also filed for Chapter 11 protection in bankruptcy in November and sold the company to Wynnchurch Capital, a private equity firm.
The Sunday Facebook message reads as follows:
To our neighbor friends and guests from New England,
In recent months, many changes have occurred at Papa Gino, all with the intention of strengthening this great and beloved brand for years to come.
Along the way, we had to make very difficult decisions. Today, we announce the closure of 7 Papa Gino restaurants. We do not expect any additional closures. We are doing everything in our power to support the managers and team members on these sites, including transfers to other Papa Gino sites or placement assistance to help them find a new job. . We want to keep as many people as possible and help the rest of them get back on their feet quickly.
The statement continues: "Fortunately, there are many more positive changes going on. Papa Gino's is now part of a newly created company called New England Authentic Eats. We have seen the love and loyalty that New Englanders have for this brand. Our new company's mission is to position Papa Gino for future growth and to invest significantly in this future, with a focus on creating excellent guests. "
The six closed branches in Massachusetts are Melrose, Wilbraham, Brockton (Crescent Street), Natick (Worcester Road) and two sites in Framingham (Cochituate Road and Worcester Road). The location of Seabrook, N.H. has also closed.
The Facebook message was signed by Bill Van Epps, CEO of New England Authentic Eats, the new parent company of Papa Gino's and D'Angelo Grilled Sandwiches. Van Epps took office in early February after working as an executive at Papa John's. According to the Boston Globe, Van Epps has big plans for franchises: modernizing the look of each site, bringing beer and wine back to Papa Gino, testing new dishes and expanding into more busy areas.
