Paso Robles vaccination clinic will close until the week of February 15

–The Paso Robles Event Center vaccination clinic will close next week due to a lack of available doses. After receiving up to 4,000 doses in previous weeks, the San Luis Obispo County Health Department received just 900 doses from the state of California last week. The number of doses is the biggest determinant in calculating the number of people vaccinated.

Local fire officials paid a media visit to the clinic at the Paso Robles Event Center on Friday. Paso Robles Fire Captain Charles Brown and Cal Fire Public Information Officer Adan Orozco escorted members of the media through the temporary vaccination center.

Charles Brown explained the protocol and told reporters that the vaccination process would be halted during the tour so that no one receiving a vaccine could feel their right to privacy was violated.

The vaccination center is made up of people from all over the country. The media met several workers from Mississippi who had been trained and airlifted to Paso Robles to help with the vaccination process.

Brown said the number of vaccines given on Friday was low due to the relatively low number of doses distributed across the county. He said the state has not provided an explanation for the reduced number of doses. He said the state is currently building large vaccination centers in Oakland and Los Angeles. This may have had an impact on the number of doses directed to San Luis Obispo County, but this is only speculation.

The Paso Robles Event Center clinic will reopen the week of February 15. The Cuesta College vaccination center near San Luis Obispo will continue to operate next week.
