Passengers must remain quarantined on the cruise ship until they are cleared

Health inspectors reportedly went on a cruise ship to Curaçao on Saturday to investigate a case of measles.

The Freewinds cruise ship, managed by the Church of Scientology, was quarantined at the port of St. Lucia before returning to Curaçao.

A female member of the crew was tested positive for measles. At present, the Curaçao government will not let any of the 300 people board the ship until it has determined who is susceptible to the disease.

The ship's doctor requested 100 doses of the measles vaccine on Thursday, which the Saint Lucia Ministry of Health announced it had provided free of charge.

"The Freewinds are not playing with the people who board the ship," said General Hafeezah, a Scientologist who was aboard the ship a week earlier. "They are very serious about safety, very serious about health, very serious about great integrity, and so for me, it is the safest ship in the ocean. "

The Church of Scientology has not responded to CNN's request for comment. It is stated on his website that the ship is a religious retreat at the top of the spiritual path of a Scientologist.

The church has no official position on vaccinations. But Professor Stephen Kent, scientology expert, says there is a church philosophy that high-ranking scientists can fight the disease.

"The problem with Freewinds is that it's filled with high-ranking Scientologists," says Kent. "As a result, a senior scientist might very well imagine that the Freewinds would be one of the last places on the planet where a person would get sick."

Measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000. There are more than 700 confirmed cases this year.
