The US ambassador to Poland sparked a wave of angry comments on Twitter after wishing the Jews a good Passover in Polish on Friday.
Ambassador Georgette Mosbacher, who also wished the Poles a Happy Easter at the Sunday, was accused of offending the Catholic-majority country with the tweet, some calling it a "provocation".
His tweet said, "On the occasion of the Pesach holiday, commemorating the departure of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery tonight, I wish a peaceful and happy holiday! Chag Pesach Sameach, Good Passover! "
This triggered many anti-Semitic comments, including one that said "only Catholics live in Poland".

Another said in part: "It's a big rebuke for the Polish nation that just Jewish individuals still on this earth."
Robert Bakiewicz, a far-right activist who organizes an annual Independence Day march, said: "Christ died and was resurrected also for you, pagans and treacherous Jews."
Some came to Moschaber's defense, recalling that Poland also has a small Jewish population.
This weekend, during the 76th anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, Jews organized a special Passover seder with about 100 Jewish families from Israel, Europe and the United States to Warsaw Ghetto. .

Poland was home to the largest Jewish population in Europe before the occupation of 1939 by Nazi Germany. The government has also been accused in the past of trying to rewrite history by banning any suggestion of complicity from Poland with the Holocaust.
