The Patriots used a second round pick on Duke Dawson cornerback last season, but he suffered a sore hamstring injury and never made it to the field. And now he's leaving New England without playing a game.

Dawson was traded to the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. The Patriots get the Broncos sixth round pick while the Broncos get Dawson and the Patriots' seventh round pick.

Dawson, 23, did not seem to have done enough to earn a spot in alignment with 53 players in New England. The Patriots were so happy to get anything in an exchange. The Broncos probably thought that a player who had participated in the second round last year would not have been forced by the waivers.

When Bill Belichick decides to go from one player to another, he does not wait. Most teams would not want to get rid of a second-round pick after a year, but the Patriots were ready to move on.
