Pau Gasol undergoes surgery following a foot injury

It's been two months since the Bucks saw Pau Gasol in action. Now, Athletic Shams of Athletic tweets, the veteran center was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The arrival of Gasol in Milwaukee after his release from the Spurs in March is at least anti-climatic. He spent at least 30 minutes for the Eastern Conference Center before injuries to his foot and ankle spoiled his spring.

Charania wrote – and the team has since confirmed – that Gasol had been operated on to repair a navicular stress fracture in his left foot. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson.

Gasol had already suffered foot injuries since November and had never adopted a healthy routine in San Antonio or Milwaukee. He should make a full return before training camp next fall.

Gasol has averaged just 12.0 minutes per game in 30 games played by both teams this year, by far the lowest in his career, but he may not be ready to consider retirement. In November, Gasol told Jabari Young of The Athletic that retirement could be something he would think about two summers.

It is unclear whether the disappointing campaign of 2018-2019 changed the opinion of 38 years old.

Gasol, of course, is a free agent this off-season after signing a late-season resting deal with the Bucks following his takeover by the Spurs. If he can regain his full health during the off season, it could be a valuable and affordable depth item for rival teams seeking to consolidate the depth of their terrain.

The Gasol campaign in 2018-1920 was a real wash, but averaged 10.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in 77 games with the Spurs at age 37 in 2017-18. It has raised $ 15 million north of San Antonio this season and will earn $ 5 million more with the 2019-20 takeover.
