Paul McCartney says he still feels connected to the late Beatles band member George Harrison and “talks” to him frequently.
The rocker, 78, has revealed he enjoys visiting and chatting with an evergreen conifer that is planted near his home in East Sussex, England.
Harrison gave him the tree before dying in 2001 following a battle with lung cancer. He was 58 years old.
“George was very interested in horticulture, [he was] a really good gardener, “the legendary Grammy winner told NPR All Things Considered.” He gave me [the] tree as a gift. It’s a big tree and it’s near my door. “

“As I left my house [on the morning of Dec. 18]I got out of the car, close the door, I looked up at the tree and said, ‘Hi, George,’ “described McCartney.” There he is, growing tall … takes you back to when I was hitchhiking with him! [George and John Lennon still have] an ever-present presence. “

The singer-songwriter has described the tree as’ lovely ‘and’ over the years every time I look at it I say, ‘This is the tree that George gave me’. George entered that tree for me. I hope he’s happy with it. “
McCartney also spoke of being there for Harrison during his battle with cancer.

“We were in New York before he went to Los Angeles to die… We were setting there, and I was holding his hand, and it occurred to me – I never said it – I don’t want to hold George’s hand. You are not holding your companion’s hands. I mean, we didn’t do it anyway, ”he detailed.
The artist described how Harrison traveled the world trying to find a cure and felt tired and frustrated towards the end of his life.

“I remember getting a little bored of having to travel all the time – looking for treatment. He had gone to Geneva to see what they could do. Then he came to a special clinic in New York to see what they could do. Then the idea was to go to LA and see what they could do. He was sort of asking himself, “Can’t we just stay in one place?” And I said, “Yeah, Speke Hall. Let’s go to Speke Hall,” he said.

“That’s one of the last things we said to each other, knowing that he would be the only person in the room who knew what Speke Hall (a public garden and estate in Liverpool) was. Anyway, which is good for me when I was holding George’s hands, he looked at me and there was a smile. “
