Paulina Porizkova looks back on the decline of her marriage.

The 55-year-old model married Ric Ocasek, frontman of The Cars, in 1989 and they were in the process of a divorce when he died in 2019.

Porizkova opened up about their breakup during a discussion with UBS Global Wealth Management to encourage other women not to make “the same mistake” that she made by not being financially prepared.

When asked if she regretted not signing a marriage contract when she got married, the model replied, “Uh, yeah.”

The star has called herself “the perfect example of an uplifting story” because her romance with her husband “has eclipsed all financial thought.”

Porizkova recalled that Ocasek believed a deal was a “bad omen”, according to People magazine, and agreed not to sign one. Instead, they combined their funds.

Once they split in 2018, the model still had access to the rocker’s money until her death in 2019 and she said she “couldn’t go to dinner.”

“I had two mortgaged houses and the board, but no way to pay anything,” Porizkova recalls. “So obviously things had to be sold, but until they were sold I had nothing to live on. I literally spent a year asking my friends to buy us products from. grocery store. It was not a good position to be. “

Plus, she felt the money talk was “unromantic” during the early years of her romance.

“It was incredibly naive of me,” Porizkova explained.
