During four weeks of this offseason, Penn State has seen nearly 20 player moves related to the transfer portal, the 2021 NFL Draft, and an additional NCAA eligibility offer for 2020 seniors. The schedule meets another pivotal moment for staff development this weekend, welcoming seven new freshmen.
“We really want to make it happen and help. We talk about it all the time,” he added. Landon Tengwall said. “We just want to get to campus and help bring this program back to the top of the Big Ten.”
Tengwall is the top-rated member of a 2021 Nittany Lions recruiting class that presumably remains incomplete with a traditional signing day in February yet to come. As currently constructed, this is a collection that includes 15 prospects who signed up in December, and essentially half of the group is heading to Happy Valley to enroll in January after graduation from the secondary.
After a Penn State season that featured a historically brutal opening period and ended with a four-game winning streak, these newcomers intend to do their part to help build toward future success.
“I think it added a bit of motivation and ambition for us”, quarterback Christian Veilleux said. “Seeing the guys go 0-5 was tough – I won’t lie. We didn’t like it, but we knew our class would have the opportunity to come in and make a difference. We don’t want this to happen again and we have set ourselves goals. I don’t think anyone has really thought about opting out throughout this season. Everyone got closer and closer, so our class is pretty strong. “
Tengwall and Veilleux are among the headliners of an early registration group that includes representatives from five states and two nations – Veilleux is the latest product in Penn State’s impressive Canadian pipeline. The rest of the freshman additions will join them later this year.
