PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The tick season has arrived and for many Pennsylvanians, they already know what it means to have a tick bite.
Pennsylvania tops the list as the country's worst state for tick-borne diseases. More than 10,000 cases of Lyme disease have been reported.
The Pennsylvania Tick Research Laboratory now offers free basic testing to all residents. The tick research laboratory can analyze your tick and look for diseases such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
"I think it's great because a lot of people seem to not know that they have a tick and that they get bitten and end up catching Lyme disease," Steve Landucci said. , a local runner.
Steps to follow:
1. Remove the tick: gently pull the tick with a tweezer and place it in a plastic bag.
2. Order a tick test: https://www.ticklab.org/
3. Send your tick: no kit is needed to collect and send a tick specimen. Just place your tick in a sealed plastic bag and send it to the lab with the receipt of your order (from the online application). Once the order process is complete, you will receive instructions to mail your tick to the lab.
4. View your test results: You can get status updates online. You will get results within three business days.
The results will indicate whether the tick that infected you has been infected. The laboratory will also be able to track which types of ticks are in the state and where they are.
