More than 1.4 million Pennsylvanians have now been fully vaccinated against covid-19, according to the latest data released on Monday.
This means that more than 11.2% of each resident – including the 20.6% who are under the age of 18 and who are not eligible for the vaccine – received both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the vaccine. single injection from Johnson & Johnson. If we exclude those who are not eligible for the vaccine, this share rises to 14.1%.
These figures include data from both the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Philadelphia Department of Health, which maintain separate records for vaccinations in the state. On Monday, the state reported 1,282,679 people had received both doses, while Philadelphia reported 142,952 more for a total of 1,425,631.
The state has started counting the new J&J vaccines among those it lists as “fully vaccinated.”
In Allegheny County, the proportion of all residents fully immunized is 11.8% (144,144); in Westmoreland County, it is 10.4% (37,962). Counting only those eligible for shooting, those numbers rise to 14.5% in Allegheny and 12.7% in Westmoreland.
There is 2 970 242 Pennsylvanians with at least one dose of a vaccine (counting both state and Philadelphia numbers) – which translates to 29.5% of those eligible to receive the vaccines.
Pennsylvania
On Monday, the state’s health department reported a total of 3,302 new two-day covid-19 cases, a slight increase from last week’s two-day report (3,176).
Of the last cases, 2,921 cases were confirmed by PCR tests, of which 381 were listed as probable. Health officials define a probable case as a case in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or symptoms of covid with a “high risk exposure” to a person who has been confirmed to have a. coronavirus.
Philadelphia led the state with the most new cases in the two-day period, with 342. It was followed by Allegheny (275), Montgomery (273), Bucks (220) and Delaware (177).
Other counties in western Pennsylvania reporting: Westmoreland (76), Butler (40), Beaver (28), Fayette (26), Lawrence (22), Washington (19), Armstrong (7), Indiana (7) and Somerset (6).
The number of hospitalizations has increased slightly, with 1,450 currently reported to be hospitalized for covid-19. Of these, 286 are in intensive care units and 167 are on ventilators. Despite this increase, the number of hospitals is down more than 15% from March 1 (1,715) and 74% from the first of the year (5,624).
Officials announced 14 new covid-related deaths, all of which occurred in March. Depending on the state, 24,587 Pennsylvanians have died from covid since the pandemic began last year.
To date, the state has registered 967,598 cases of covid-19, with 829,005 confirmed by PCR tests.
Allegheny County
There were 275 new cases of covid-19 reported over the two days in Allegheny County, bringing the total number of cases to date above the 80,000 mark. The new report is a slight decrease compared to last week 278 reported, but 30% less than a month ago (394).
Of the new cases, 228 were confirmed by 1,258 PCR tests, four of which are more than a week old. There were 47 cases listed as probable. The dates for positive tests ranged from February 25 to Sunday. New cases ranged from 2 months to 92 years, with a median age of 36 years.
Allegheny County Health Department officials reported one new death, a person in their 40s, with a date of death on March 12.
Among the new cases – 127 women, 148 men – the age distribution is:
- 0 to 4 years old: 11
- From 5 to 12 years old: 24
- 13 to 18 years old: 17
- 19 to 24 years old: 26
- 25 to 49 years old: 110
- 50 to 64: 59
- 65 years and over: 28
There are 153 residents of Allegheny County currently hospitalized with covid-19. Of those, 40 are in intensive care units and 15 on ventilators. This is a drop of 9.4% since March 1 (169) and a drop of 78% since January 1 (697).
Since the pandemic began last year, the county has recorded 80,054 cases of covid-19, with 62,335 of these cases were confirmed by PCR testing.
Westmoreland County
For the fourth day in a row, no new covid-related deaths have been reported in Westmoreland County. This is the longest duration of its kind since September 30-October. 4. This is also the fifth time in the past eight days and the seventh time this month that the county has not had any new deaths reported.
To date, the covid-related death toll in Westmoreland County stands at 688.
There were 76 new cases of covid reported over the two-day period, including 68 cases confirmed by 327 PCR tests. There were eight cases listed as probable.
There are 121 Westmoreland County residents hospitalized with covid-19. Of those, five are in intensive care units and two on ventilators. The figures are up 9% since March 1 (111), but down 27.5% since January 1 (167).
To date, there have been 27,646 cases of covids in Westmoreland County, with 19,420 cases confirmed by PCR tests.
