Jody Thompson, a 50-year-old London-based media consultant, told The Sun on Monday that the candle burned in her home after winning the product as a prize for an online quiz.

“The candle exploded and emitted huge flames, with pieces flying all over the place,” she recalls. “I’ve never seen anything like it. Everything was on fire and it was too hot to touch. There was a blaze in the room.”

Thompson and his partner, David Snow, worked together to deal with the situation and decided to throw the candle outside their house.

“We finally overpowered him and threw him out the front door,” she told the agency.

Although Thompson said the candle “could have burnt the place” and “was scary at the time,” she admitted to finding the situation “funny” in hindsight.

Thompson did not provide details of how his candle “exploded.” However, there is a warning to “burn the candle in sight” and “stay away from things that catch fire” on the Goop website. The statement also offers advice such as cutting the “wick 1/8 ‘before each lighting,” placing “on a stable heat-resistant surface” and not burning for “more than two hours at a time”.
