The performance art biennial kicks off with the second annual Performa Telethon on October 12.

All the ninth Biennial show will be broadcast live for free from October 12 to 31, starting with its second fundraising telethon.
“Performa has extraordinary documentation of the performances of the last decades of artists from around the world, and having already created our own streaming website, we were able to move forward quickly when the pandemic struck, imagining all kinds of new ways. exciting to envision “the art of broadcasting,” said RoseLee Goldberg, founding director of Performa.
“We will once again take this format one step further, creating a live broadcast studio that will operate for the entire three weeks, integrating the live broadcast of the Biennale itself and bringing excitement to the streets of New York to the world. “
Performa will broadcast a radio series live from Newsstand Studios at Rockefeller Center and broadcast live performance videos from a 40,000 square foot former Topshop flagship store on the association’s website. They will also share video interviews with the eight artists commissioned for Performa 2021—Sarah Cwynar, Danielle Dean, Kevin Beasley, Ericka Beckman, Madeline Hollander, Andres Jacques, Tschabalala Self, and Shikeith.
“Our studio location at 608 Fifth Avenue is emblematic of the entire biennial program, which considers the changes the city has gone through and envisions a powerful future for its people,” said event executive producer Esa Nickle .
Performa inaugurated its telethon last year instead of the traditional opening gala.
The theme for this year’s Performa Telethon is “New York City: Forever Radical”.
The three-hour program will include performances by my barbarian, Lee Ranaldo and the Orchestra of Noise Intoners, Narcissister, Michelle Handleman and John Kelley.
Viewers will be able to call or text and purchase affordable prints from artists Ericka Beckman and Sara Cwynar, as well as memorabilia from past performances, including one Barbara kruger skateboard from 2017. -[O]
