The regional governor of Tacna, Omar Gustavo Jimenez Flores, resigned from his post by a letter to the Regional Council this afternoon, in which he states that he does not want to harm the image of the institution with the investigations he conducted against him.

Jimenez Flores was arrested Friday night at the Coronel FAP airport Carlos Ciriani of Santa Rosa. Tacna. He is accused by the Office of the Special Prosecutor for corruption offenses committed by civil servants to be part of the "Los Limpios de Tacna" organization, which deals with land trafficking.

Early Friday, the national police and the prosecution arrested 23 defendants for integrating this criminal organization. During the operation were arrested the mayor of the provincial municipality of Tacna, Jorge Luis Infantas Franco; and the former mayor of Tacna and current candidate for the regional government, Luis Ramón Torres Robledo.

The judicial resolution that ordered the preliminary arrest of 24 people also included the current regional governor of Tacna, Omar Gustavo Jiménez Flores, who could not be located at that time.
