– Your books deal with topics such as bullying, anorexia and aids. What problems do you have to solve?
Maybe feminism and sexuality are issues in full swing. When I am in front of the book, I leave my opinion aside. I think in books, there should not be good or bad characters. It may work for Disney. In real life, we can get along with someone who thinks differently from you. There are no better or worse people, but people with different opinions.
– Do you want to write a book based on your story?
My story is the least credible of all the ones I've written [risas]. Ten years ago, I had no work, I lived in a place of 20 m2. What has happened is a miracle, but also an example of perseverance. Maybe when someone tells me that the Blue Jeans have arrived here, I will write my autobiography, like Agatha Christie. Although my life is not so interesting.
– Now that digital platforms have more and more power, how do you reinforce the value of having a physical book among the new generations?
In the world of books, something odd happens because one might think that the digital generation does not interest him; However, they are the ones who arrive at my signatures with the paper book. I will not tell you my rules, but I sell 99% on paper. In addition, I understand that children do not have money to buy a book and that they have not explained to them that piracy is a mistake, but that there are thousands of options: remove it from libraries or buy it among several. On the Internet, they reproach me for defending something as natural as that.
– You have a book signing today. I read that in many of them, your readers were moved to tears.
The first time I arrived in Lima, I heard screams and every time I made a move, they were screaming as if they were watching Justin Bieber. It also impresses me when mothers tell you that their daughters are suffering from anorexia and one of my characters. It's a real problem, not something of the novel.
