So far in 2018, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has carried out rapid HIV testing with a million 295,456 people, through its establishments, campaigns or brigades traveling in the whole country, said the portfolio.

He pointed out that this contributes to the early detection and rapid treatment of this disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus.

An estimated 72,000 people live with HIV in Peru, of which 56,937 (79%) are diagnosed.

According to Patricia Segura, head of the HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control Directorate in Minsa, in the last five years (2013-2017), the number of reported cases has increased, thanks to the increased number of people who have the quick test.

He recalled that this infection did not cause symptoms and that, as sexual intercourse is the main route of transmission, it was important to carry out the scrapping test at least once a year.

Just a drop of blood taken from the finger and the preliminary result is ready in 20 minutes.

"What is desirable is that the person comes early to the health facility. This is good, especially those who have more than one partner or those who have unprotected sex." "he explained.

He said that the goal was to get an early diagnosis and not reach the AIDS phase, the most advanced phase of the disease, that is to say when the body is unable to defend itself against other infections.

"HIV is no longer synonymous with death, it is a chronic infection that, through early diagnosis and treatment, can lead to a healthy life," said the specialist.

Minsa guarantees free access to the rapid HIV test at all facilities, especially pregnant women, to prevent the newborn from being born with the infection.

Since prevention is essential, it is recommended that young people learn about the problem, delay sexual initiation, have only one partner, use condoms. to reduce the risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Central activity

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Minsa will provide free tips and quick tests. The activity will take place on Saturday, December 1st at Plaza Manco Cápac (La Victoria) from 8:00 to 20:00.
