According to the document signed with the Spanish operator, it will only be valid until November 2027 and not before 2032, as requested by the company.

The decision to MTC it strictly supported what had been agreed in these contracts, on the basis of respect for legal and contractual security, as well as in the current legal framework.

Citizens will not be affected by this measure, as Telefónica del Perú must continue to provide services for a maximum period of three years after its last renewal, ie November 27, 2027.

The company also has 11 other concessions in force, in addition to the regional broadband project – Lambayeque, which will benefit more than 234,000 residents with high speed internet.

For its part, the telephone company reacted to the ministry's decision. "We disagree with the decision made by the MTC, especially with the methodology used which does not take into account our contribution to the development of telecommunications in the country and which is unprecedented at the international level," said Mario Coronado, director of the regulation of Telefónica del Perú. .

It should be noted that Telefónica, which currently operates under the Movistar brand, has applied for renewal three times and has been granted for a slightly shorter period than requested.
