PrEP has arrived, the treatment that helps prevent HIV

Civilian organizations have launched the "Let's Talk About PrEP" campaign, so that the population, and especially vulnerable groups, know about the medical treatment to prevent contagion by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

With this, he initiated the implementation protocol of the combined strategy ImPrEP-Mexico, a project supported by UNITAID (an international initiative that promotes access to treatment) in three countries, namely Brazil, Mexico and Mexico. Peru, and now in three cities of the country: Guadalajara. , Puerto Vallarta and Mexico.

For this purpose, a web application has been made available to the population to obtain complete information, to know the criteria for participation and to engage in dialogue on a priority theme of HIV prevention.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a medical treatment that helps prevent HIV. It focuses on populations most exposed to the virus. It is a prevention strategy combined with the use of condoms, medical monitoring and periodic tests.

At the presentation of the campaign, Almendra Herna? Ndez, coordinator of the ImPrEP communication in Mexico, took the floor. what constitutes and does not constitute PrEP, the objectives and scope of the project, the participation of civil society and participating institutions.

The communication campaign seeks to open informed dialogues that translate into more people in better health; dialogues between couples, between people and their doctors; between universities, citizenship and government, without neglecting reflection on new ways to prevent HIV.

This project has a duration of three years and a reach of three thousand volunteers in the cities of Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, with the aim of informing of this treatment that is taken before having relationships with people with HIV.
