We had already commented that WhatsApp was working on a new feature that would notify if a shared link was suspicious, and now it is already operational.
Users can already find this feature in beta version of the WhatsApp app for Android, and test its dynamics. The operation is simple, if we receive a link detected by irregular WhatsApp, it will be marked with a red tag that says "suspicious link", and a message that mentions that the link contains irregular characters, which may seem to be a website that does not have it.
For example, confusing links could be created with letters from popular websites in order to visually deceive the user and redirect them to a misleading page. The WhatsApp system detects this type of irregularities and creates an alert notification.
Of course, the user will finally decide to open it or not, but WhatsApp will have already made two attempts to persuade him to be careful with the content you have received. This feature is one of the new measures that WhatsApp is implementing to combat spam, fraud and false news.
At present, it is visible only by Android users, but will soon be extended to other platforms.
