‘I just thought something was wrong’: Pete Davidson recalls his RELIEF about being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder
Pete Davidson remembers being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in a recent interview.
The 27-year-old SNL funnyman sat down with Glenn Close for Variety’s Actors on Actors series where he spoke of the relief he felt after receiving an accurate diagnosis in 2017.
“ I was still so confused the whole time, and I just thought something was wrong and I didn’t know how to deal with it, ” he said.

He continued to say that finally understanding his condition and getting a proper diagnosis made him feel easy.
“When someone finally tells you, the weight of the world feels lifted off your shoulders. You feel so much better.
He struggled for years to find the right doctors to work with and had heard of the diagnosis before.
‘One of my psychiatrists [diagnosed me]. He always said before this great crisis: “You are probably bipolar or borderline, we’re just going to have to figure it out”. ‘

In a 2017 WTF interview with Marc Maron, he explained that prior to the diagnosis, he checked into a rehabilitation center in 2016 after believing his marijuana use was causing mental problems.
“ I started having these mental breakdowns where I want to, like, panic and not remember what happened after. Blind rage. ‘
“They told me over there, they’re like, ‘You might be bipolar,’ and I was like ‘OK’. So they’re like, “We’re going to try you with these drugs.” And then I went out [of rehab], then I started smoking weed again – and I’m taking medicine, ”he says.
After leaving the facility he confessed he had ‘broke’ and decided to take the drug out of his life altogether, but months later he found himself in trouble, that’s what when he found out once and for all that he had BPD.

He said the symptoms of his disorder left him “ depressed all the time, ” but he was slowly coming to terms with everything. “It is working, slowly but surely.
“I had a lot of problems. This entire year has been a nightmare. It’s been the worst year of my life, being diagnosed with it and trying to figure out how to learn from it and live with it. he said to Maron.
In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God in 2020, he confessed: “ I wake up depressed, but now I know my steps. I have to go out and be in the sun for a bit, or go for a walk. It’s just programming you to trick your brain.
The actor lost his firefighter father during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 which, according to him, definitely played a role in his mental health. “One day he was here and the next day he was gone.
Davidson also told Charlamagne that he had considered suicide, before saying, “I can’t because I have a mother and a sister and a family.
