Peter Fairbanks gets up, Joe Palumbo optional

Texas Rangers Transactions: Peter Fairbanks has been added to the Rangers list before tonight's doubles match, the team said. To make him a place in the lineup of 25 players, the Rangers opted for pitcher Joe Palumbo, who played match 1, against Frisco. To make room on the 40-player roster, the Rangers have designated pitcher Nick Gardewine for posting.

Fairbanks right-handers have seen a meteoric rise this year: the 9th 25-year-old from the University of Missouri in 2015 missed a good part of 2017 and the entire year 2018 after undergoing his second surgery of Tommy John. He came back in the late '90s, however, and over the past month, people have been telling him that he would be in the majors this summer. He started the year in Down East and got promotions at Frisco, then in Nashville. In the three combined stops, he made an ERA of 2.35 in 23 IPs with 36 K. A fastball / slider guy, he essentially takes the place of David Carpenter, who was designated for a mission this morning to leave the place to Joe Palumbo.

Palumbo did a solid job in his big league debut and, as expected, is now returning to the miners to continue perfecting his craft and preparing for his next big round.

Gardewine, 25, is on the injured list for Nashville. The right-handed rectifier missed the most in 2018 and 2019 due to injuries. Texas has 7 days to give up, to trade, or to release Guardwine.
