New COVID-19 vaccines are out, so every little bit helps as the country tries to get back to normal. That said, it’s as bad a time as any to learn that a Wisconsin pharmacist has sabotaged more than 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine. This number goes a long way since the process per person requires two doses.
In a press release posted to Facebook, the Grafton Police Department said it was called to Advocate Aurora Health Hospital in Grafton on Wednesday following a report that a former employee intentionally withdrew vaccines from the refrigerated warehouse and had left them outside overnight. Medical professionals said this rendered 570 doses “unnecessary”, police said.
It was thought it was an accident, but Aurora Health said they discovered the pharmacist had done it on purpose. The former employee in question reportedly admitted in writing that he omitted the vaccine on purpose, knowing that improperly stored vaccines would be ruined. Detectives suggested that the defendant knew that spoiled vaccinations would be unnecessary and that people who received them would think they were vaccinated when they were not.
Cops said 57 of those doses were given to patients, but citing health officials there would be no health problems due to the deterioration. The lost value was estimated between $ 8,000 and $ 11,000.
The Grafton Police Department did not identify the accused, saying he must be formally informed of his charges. They only said he was a “former Aurora Health employee” who was arrested for recklessly endangering first degree safety, tampering with prescription medicine and damaging property. They mentioned that he was being held at the Ozaukee County Jail. As previously stated, a Steven brandenburg is in the Ozaukee County Jail.
Records seen by Law & Crime show that he is being held on two counts: one for second degree security, recklessly endangering security and criminal damage to property. He was taken into custody on Thursday. Online records name a “Steven R. Brandenburg” as a pharmacist for the village of Saukville, Ozaukee County. In any case, it is not known whether detainee Bradenburg has an official lawyer.
