MANILA (UPDATE)– A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Cagayan Thursday, Phivolcs said.
The earthquake, improved compared to its initial magnitude-5 measurement, occurred at 4:34 pm, 27 kilometers northwest of the city of Calayan.
It was of tectonic origin and had a depth of 24 kilometers, according to Phivolcs.
The earthquake was felt in the following areas:
Intensity IV – the city of Laoag; Bacarra, Pasuquin and Vintar, Ilocos Norte
Intensity III – Cervantes and Sinai, Ilocos Sur
The following instrumental intensities have also been reported:
Intensity IV- Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte
Intensity III – Sinait, Ilocos Sur
Intensity II – Peñablanca, Cagayan
Intensity I – Vigan City
The earthquake should not cause any harm, but Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks.
