MANILA, Philippines – Capitals in Quezon City have put their trust in Andrew Estrella to challenge Caloocan Supremos, 81-79, to win the Datu Cup of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

Estrella had eight consecutive points in the last three minutes to tip the Capitals in the tilting contest, which saw 12 head changes.

The former Mapua Cardinal scored 20 points, followed by Jay Collado with 17 points and Jeff Morillo with 10 points, for the Capitals, who broke a three-game slide and improved to 3-7.

The Supremos had the opportunity to reverse the situation, but the 3-pointer hit and beat Paul Sanga's striker hit only the goal.

Almond Vosotros, the best gunner in the league, again led Caloocan, backed by Longrich, with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but could not save the Supremos from their ninth loss against four wins.

Mombert Arong scored 12 points, while Rene Pacquiao, cousin of MPBL founder Senator Manny Pacquiao, contributed 11 points and 16 rebounds to the Supremos.

Earlier, the Muntinlupa Masters Cunt flirted with the disaster before starting a squeak of 61-60 on the Warriors of the city of General Santos.

Allan Mangahas, hitting in the hour of crisis, let slip a small break of 3.5 seconds for the marginal basket that allowed the Cagers backed by Angelis Resort to reach the 9-3 mark.

The Warriors, who missed two opportunities to reverse the situation, dropped to 5-7.

Under the leadership of Dhon Reverente and Regie Boy Basibas, the Cagers racked up 12 points, allowing them to get ahead after leading the Warriors to nine points, 32-41.

Reverente was found with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Basibas finished with 14 points and nine rebounds while they resumed the Mangahas cudgels, which held only seven points, and Chito's Jayme, who got eight points.

The Warriors got 19 points and 12 rebounds from John Orbeta.

The MPVL goes on Tuesday to Valenzuela Astrodome for a double bill between Manila in Paranaque and Valenzuela in Bacoor.
