MANILA, Philippines – Generika-Ayala scored a major upset on Tuesday, when the Lifesavers stunned powerhouse F2 Logistics in four sets in the Philippine Superliga 2018 (PSL) All-Filipino Conference.
The Lifesavers is a 1925, 25-22, 25-16, 28-26 victory, claiming their first triumph of the tournament at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Patty Orendain spearheaded the attack for the Lifesavers, who bravely turned 21-24 disadvantage in the fourth set in a shocking win over the Cargo Movers.
Tallied Orendan 18 points and 10 receptions, while skipper Angeli Araneta added 15 markers to his hand Generika-Ayala his first win in four matches.
Libero Kath Arado was also spectacular, with 41 digs and 10 receptions to outplay celebrated F2 Logistics counterpart Dawn Macandili (30 digs).
"Our hard work really paid off," said Generika coach Sherwin Meneses. "After three losses, we still kept going."
"I told the team to just be patient, and continue working hard," he added. "We know we will have our time, so we did not give up."
Meneses said their strong serve threw F2 Logistics off their comfort zone, and indeed, the Lifesavers tallied six aces while giving up none to the Cargo Movers.
"We're happy that we're stuck to our game plan," he said.
Michelle Morente had 14 points and 13 excellent receptions for F2 Logistics.
Cha Cruz-Behag had 11 markers and Aby Marano, Ara Galang and Majoy Baron each had 10 markers for the Cargo Movers, who suffered a rare back-to-back setback.
F2 Logistics also surrendered to reigning Petron champion in a thrilling four-set encounter over the weekend to a 3-2 win-loss card.
