ANGKAS, the fastest-growing motorcycle application service in the Philippines, offers the country's first-ever motorcycle-ambulance service.
Nicknamed "Angkas Buhay", this revolutionary ambulance service aims to provide first aid on the spot in case of emergency or to immediately transport the doctors to the patient. In this regard, Angkas is inviting existing driver partners and new members to join the pilot program in Metro Manila to train as volunteer paramedics.
Initially a collaboration between Angkas, Notre Dame colleges of Guadalupe (OLGC) and the Victor R. Potenciano Medical Center (PRV) of Mandaluyong City, Angkas Buhay will be the pioneer of an intensive training course at the University of The intention of drivers of emergency medical technicians (EMT certified).
After attending training, qualified EMT drivers, armed with life-saving techniques on board a specially designed "ambucycle" and equipped with medical supplies and equipment, will be able to stabilize patients until they reach the end of their life. at the arrival of secondary medical transport.
Angkas Buhay, whose launch is scheduled for mid-2019, will be presented via an "Emergency" button built into the application to match the EMT driver located near the patient.
Launched on November 25 at the Ynares Center of Antipolo, in Rizal, during Angkas' first Safety Fiesta to commemorate its first anniversary, Angkas Buhay is the latest initiative in the transportation application for public safety. Presenting the ambucyle prototype with a short video trailer, a panel of speakers from Angkas and key partners gave an overview of the project.
"We have all heard tragic stories about critical patients who needed to be transported to the hospital, but because of the traffic jam and the cost of ambulance travel, many had died on arrival. For some of us, it might even strike near their home, but what if Angkas could change all that? Said Angeline Tham, founder and CEO of Angkas. In a challenge to the runners, Tham recounted the heroism shown by the driving partner Francis C. Belecario who, on 3 September, was instrumental in rescuing the injured policeman, M1 Berlino L. Ricafort, in Barangay Kamputhaw. , in the city of Cebu.
Cited for its exceptional courage and invaluable service to the community, Belecario has been recognized by the PNP of Cebu City for its ability to think fast and respond immediately to the call of duty when it has brought Policeman Ricafort at the nearest hospital for treatment. Tham said that without Belecario's presence on the Angkas platform, the injuries of M1 Ricafort could have been fatal.
A telling moment for Tham, she said the incident was a turning point for Angkas. "We started with one mission: helping commuters overcome traffic, and for many, it saved their lives. We then realized that we could go further as a public service, taking not only the passengers to go to, but also speeding up the arrival of medical care for those in need of urgent care. "
Angkas chief of operations, David Medrana, also took the opportunity to encourage drivers to enroll in the Angkas Buhay program. "We invite new drivers and our current partners to be part of our elite EMT team. Angkas Buhay accepts the applications and we look forward to introducing our first group of trainees to the public. "
On behalf of the VRP affiliate, Vincent Mark Vergel of Dios, Administrator of OLGC College, said: "OLGC and VRP are proud of this partnership with Angkas. Angkas Buhay will help many people and we are delighted to pass on our knowledge to Angkas drivers. "
