The Hyundai Santa Fe is not a small crossover. It's good for carrying 7 people and their luggage after all. But what if you want something even bigger? Hyundai answered this question with the introduction of the Palisade 2020, their largest crossover to date.
Designed for Ford Explorer, Mazda CX-9 and Honda Pilot, the Palisade is nearly five meters long. From the outside, the look follows Hyundai's current design language of a bold Y-shaped grill, raised LED daytime running lights and bumper-mounted headlamps. It's the same concept used in Kona and Santa Fe. The difference with the picket fence is that the front end is straighter than its smaller stablemates.
Its size is further accentuated when viewed from the side. Long doors, associated with tall windows, give it an imposing appearance. The defined lines along the wings, doors and neighborhood panels add a little character to the sides of the palisade and a chrome strip above the windows adds a bit of shine. At the rear, it has a rounded tailgate, complemented by a bucket of vertical taillights. In addition, the spoiler is integrated in the tailgate windshield.
Inside, the front passengers are greeted by an autonomous infotainment screen, which connects to the vehicle's dashboard. Speaking of which, the cluster is a mix of analog and digital, classic gauges and a large multi-info screen between them. It also incorporates an adaptation of the design of the wraparound dashboard Santa Fe and a large center console. The Palisade also contains a push-button gear selector, eliminating the traditional lever.
Because of its size, Hyundai says the full size crossover can accommodate eight passengers, thanks to its large third-row seats. It also has seven USB charging ports covering all rows of seats, as well as 16 cupholders for everyone on board the Palisade to be well hydrated. There is also a head-up display, an intercom system, power folding seats and adaptive cruise control.
There is only one engine option available. The Palisade is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 producing 291 hp and 355 Nm of torque. It is then connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels.
The palisade will be manufactured in South Korea, but it is not yet known if it will be offered in markets outside North America.
